Here are some tips that can help you if you are a Sage 50 US Edition (Peachtree) user:
Customize reports in Sage 50 US Edition (Peachtree)
With Peachtree’s built-in report designer, you can easily customize standard reports to meet your requirements. When you open a report, you will see 2 icons on the top – “options” and “columns”.
Options – will let you define the date, filter and summarizing option for the data in your report
Columns – will let you add more columnar data to your report
Powered with Crystal Report for Peachtree, many complicated forms and reports can be created.
Use Sage 50 US Edition (Peachtree) Report Groups for printing a set of reports every month in a simple way
Sage 50 US Edition Accounting has a feature called Report Group. The user can create a Report Group and save different reports from different modules in it. This usually helps you print the set of reports as and when required without having to go to different modules. A good example will be month end financial reports in a combination of Financial Statements, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
Update Sage 50 US Edition (Peachtree) Software
To apply the latest service pack update for your Sage 50 US Edition software:
Start your Sage 50 US Edition > click on “Services” on you menu bar > Choose “Check for Updates” and follow the instructions. Do this on the server machine first and then on the client machines in case of a multi-user installation.
Back up you company data regularly
You can manually backup the data on a daily basis (recommended) by going to File>Backup You can also use the Automatic Backup feature to schedule backups on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and a few other criteria. Please remember that Sage 50 US Edition does not back up automatically when a user is logged in to the system. Therefore, it is better to manually check if the backups are being taken on a regular basis if you are relying completely on the Automatic Backup feature.
Be careful with the Account Types in Chart of Accounts
Watch the “account type” when you set up a new account in the chart of accounts. You could use the “Change ID” function in Chart of accounts to re-code Account IDs so that accounts of similar nature are all in the same series. Example: Revenue – starting with 4, Cost of Sales – starting with 5 etc.
User Security – set restrictions, do not share your passwords
Peachtree is very user-friendly and flexible accounting software which comes with a strong user security feature. It is important to restrict user access to specific areas limited to their area of operation. Generally, it is good to give limited access to users as required to perform their duties.
Also, it is important to have unique user names with their respective passwords for different users. Do not share your passwords with others to avoid any complication at a later stage.
You can take help of a software expert who could analyze the organization’s various job roles and set the security levels for all the users accordingly.
